I know this is small potatoes, but I think it's a step in the right direction.
Today, the city commission in Kalamazoo, MI passes an ordinance that:
It will prohibit discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people when it comes to hiring, housing and other accommodations. The ordinance goes into effect in July.
Of course there were those who opposed the ordinance, and their reasons for the opposition are (to me) insane as usual:
This ordinance, I feel, is an infringement on the rights of everyone in Kalamazoo and everyone visiting and working in Kalamazoo,"
Huh?
I have yet to understand one of these so-called "reasons" to why some people oppose anything and everything when it comes to gay rights. I have yet to get someone to explain to me exactly how gay marriage hurts marriage in general....?
Anyway, I hope this little bit of news for the better will help my gay/lesbian brothers and sisters feel that something is being done to progress your equal rights. I can understand your frustrations, and I am here for you.
If you'd like to read more about the new ordinance, you can check it out here.
Peace.
