I just got a call from my parents. My little nephew was born 4 weeks premature and has known heart problems. Today was the test to take a close look at the heart and see if and how they could fix it. The result just came back, and the answer is that they cannot fix his heart.
He is still doing OK in intensive care (where he has been since birth 5 weeks ago). The actual problem is that he is missing a pulmonary artery from his left lung to his heart. It just never grew. There are several tiny veins there doing the work, but as he matures the body will absorb them, reducing the oxygen in his blood over time. In time, over the next 2 to 22 years, he will pass away.
The doctor is going to send the information to Vanderbilt Hospital in hopes that the specialists there can provide other information, but he is not very hopeful I don't think.
I know this isn't much of a diary. But hurt shared is hurt halved. I am down in Dallas visiting my boyfriend, and I don't have my regular support group to talk to. So I come here, where I hang most of the day anyway, because I don't know where else to go right now.
Your thoughts, energy, and prayers are welcomed.
Nathanial and I.
