I think that most here are aware of the work of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. These are the folks who protest at our soldiers' funerals waving signs like "God Blew Up The Troops" and "Thank God For Dead Soldiers." They use these protests to spread their message that God is punishing the United States for homosexuality and the acceptance of it. Today, Westboro won...and so did free speech.
Today the SCOTUS chose not to hear an appeal of an injunction preventing the enforcement of a Missouri law regulating protests outside such funerals. The Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit granted an injunction on appeal from the decision of a District Court decision denying injunctive relief.
The battle isn't over yet, though. Now, it will be up to the District Court to determine the merits of the statute and whether it runs afoul of the First Amendment.
PS- Sorry for the short diary, but I didn't see this diaried elsewhere.
