I've been noticing this all or nothing mentality amongst progressives. Which is fine. We need people who are unwavering in their support of a public option. We need people to make that argument to counter the argument of the opposition
But what I disagree with is the characterization that if we don't get a public option for heath care then the reform is useless. That type of rhetoric seems not to be based in fact. The practice of rejecting people with preexisting condition is something very important that affects lots of people. Recision a practice that I just found out about is also a practice that can be banned by legislation that is very important and affects lots of people. We also can undo the legislation that prevents medicare from negotiating with drug companies which will save the federal government billions. Now all these ideas if implemented would benefit millions of americans and to say that any legislation without a public option is useless I think is misplaced.
I personally I take this approach of the process I just want Senator Reid and Obama to try to pass the public option. I mean every democrat doesn't have to vote for it I just don't want them to filibuster it. But If that is impossible I would like them to get those smaller things above done because who knows when we will have the chance to do even those things again. What do you guys think.
