Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor had a busy and painful day yesterday. While on her way to Washington to meet with Senators Chuck Grassley, Max Baucus, Kay Hagan, Mary Landrieu, Jeanne Shaheen and David Vitter, Sotomayor broke her ankle after a stumble at LaGuardia Airport. But after a quick trip to the hospital, where she got a cast and some crutches, Sotomayor kept her appointments, with two Senators showing a little southern hospitality:
Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, a Democrat, signed Sotomayor's cast during their session. Her fellow Louisianan, Republican Sen. David Vitter, had a bag of ice and a pillow on hand when the judge arrived at his office, telling her to "please be seated and relax."
And while Rush Limbaugh, proving once again what a classy guy he is, spent a good portion of his show mocking Sotomayor's injury, former First Lady Laura Bush said:
I think she sounds like a very interesting and good nominee ... as a woman, I'm proud that there might be another woman on the court. I wish her well.
No word on when Limbaugh will have her drummed out of the party.
Today Sotomayor is scheduled to meet with Senators Michael Bennet, Roland Burris, Maria Cantwell, Bob Casey, Jim DeMint, Mel Martinez, Ben Nelson and Richard Shelby.
