Jim Robinson, Michelle's earliest known relative is her great-great grandfather Jim Robinson, born in the 1850s, who was an American slave on the Friendfield plantation in South Carolina. The family believes that after the Civil War he remained a Friendfield plantation sharecropper for the rest of his life and that he was buried there in an unmarked grave.
Wow!!! In Ghana (West African Country), Cape Coast Castle served as Britain's West Africa headquarters for the trans-Atlantic slave trade. I hope a visit to Cape Coast Castle is on their itinerary. There is a good chance Michelle's ancestors left the African continent for the Caribeans, Canada or the US from Cape Coast Castle during the height of the slave trade in the 1600s and 1700s.
Symbolically it is very powerful. It took a couple of hundred years but now one of their daughter's AGAIN shares the most sacred bond with the most powerful man in the world.
Have no doubt about it, no matter what your reasoning was for voting for Barack, your vote for Barack and subsequently Michelle will go down in history as a vote that lives on way beyond 4 years (or maybe 8). Be proud!
For those who voted for the McCain ticket, while they might have had genuine political differences with Obama, they missed an opportunity to be part of a legacy that will ultimately transcend any political differences of our time. I bet most folks who voted for Abraham Lincoln lived their lives knowing they had a significant part in shaping the future.
