Even tho Benjamin Netanyahu announced his support for a two-state solution after decades of standing firm against it, and called for negotiations with no preconditions and wants them now, Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinian Authority has said that even if the US and Israel come to an agreement on settlements where natural growth for buildings currently underway, Abbas will not negotiate.
Now, what about peace talks doesn't Abbas understand? Doesn't he get that settlement activity will only continue the more he stalls? Even Obama, who even called out the settlements in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) agreed for some natural growth:'
A U.S. official denied on Wednesday a report in the Israeli daily Maariv that the Obama administration agreed work could continue on 2,500 housing units whose construction had begun
While an official "denied" this, it may be true as there have been numerous reports.
You got to be kidding me. You turned down the Peel Commission in 1937, then you turn down the 1947 UN partition plan (a binding vote, not some meaningless resolution), then the 2000 Clinton plan, then the Olmert offer. When does you rejectionism end?
"There are no middle-ground solutions for the settlement issue: either settlement activity stops or it doesn't stop," Saeb Erekat told Voice of Palestine radio.
Do Palestinian leaders know what negotiations or diplomacy are? Or do they only know what a qassam rocket and rejectionism are? This after Netanyahu offers you
both diplomatic peace and economic peace
Abbas also is unwilling to "give up an inch of the West Bank," which implies he would even reject landswaps. And he won't get the idea of the great 21st century Trojan Horse called right of return out of his head.
There is no Palestinian Sadat out there. Why not? The closest thing I have seen is Fayyad, as he just said Jews could live in a Palestine. But Abbas really is screwing everyone over. If he wants to lead his people, he needs to get to the table.
With the settlements, when Israel is offered a real peace deal, they've removed them. Remember the Egypt peace treaty? They removed every single settler. And even when they weren't offered a deal when they pulled from Gaza, all they got was more jihad. They even withdrew from Gaza every settler without a peace deal. We saw how far that got them.
Mahmoud Abbas is not a partner for peace. Not that I'm a fan of Netanyahu, but he is offering far more than Abbas. Its time for Abbas to get his ass moving.
And I'm back and its great! nothing as great as getting out there and supporting peace again!
