I haven't been writing lately because my right arm is in a cast after surgery, but Jeff Sessions' most recent outburst was too much for me.
Here's the blatant lie the junior senator from Alabama told about his intentions vis-à-vis Sonia Sotomayor:
"I will not vote for - no senator should vote for - an individual nominated by any president who believes it is acceptable for a judge to allow their own personal background, gender, prejudices or sympathies to sway their decision in favor of, or against, parties before the court.
"In my view," he said, "such a philosophy is disqualifying."
What a load of crap.
As BarbinMD pointed out, here's what Samuel Alito said at his confirmation hearings in 2006:
When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account.
In spite of Alito's "admission" that he would allow his own personal background to sway his decisions in court, Sessions voted to confirm Alito. Twice.
There are only two possibilities here:
(a) Jeff Sessions has changed his views on judicial nominees since 2006, in which case he now views his vote to confirm Alito as a mistake; or
(b) Jeff Sessions is a liar.
I pick (b).
Alert the media.
