I reached a very amiable staffer in his Omaha office and told her how grateful, I personally, was that Senator Nelson is so willing to gum up the works on health care. We've only been working hard on this issue for the past 15 or 20 years (some of us, people like me, a lot less), and we're glad to see he's pushing off getting any resolution for the unforseeable future.
I made sure to say that the 900 or so Nebraskans who lose their health care every month are pretty grateful too--it's not like they want to see any change in the status quo. And I definitely told her that there was no way we could afford to rush this--not with so much at stake.
I really did say all those things. And then I made sure to tell her that I wasn't mad at her personally, but this was a disgusting spectacle. A lot of people worked their asses off to get a lot of other odious people unelected, and that this was some thanks for their work. People are definitely watching, even those who don't live in Nebraska like me. She was very polite, and I did communicate that I wasn't yelling at her, but at her employer, and she was decent enough to take down my contact info and pass the info along to the Senator.
So do it! You'll feel better, I promise. I couldn't think of anything else to do to quell my outrage at Nelson's stupidity (and Landrieu, Wyden (WTF?), Lieberman, Snow and Collins.
