A friend recently shared about an encounter with a "third-world" medical system. Prior to a long trip to Brazil, he had broken his foot. Before leaving the US, his orthopedic removed the cast and suggested my friend have a Brazilian orthopedic check his foot after a few weeks to make sure it was healing properly.
My friend followed directions. He had four digital X-rays taken. All was fine. He paid $30 for the visit AND X-rays. He emailed the X-rays to the US doctor. When he called his doctor, the doctor expressed amazement at the clarity of the X-rays.
This is only one experience, but add it to the long list of personal and shared experiences that strongly suggest that the US "worldclass" healthcare system is just a myth perpetuated by the medical / insurance industry.
