On Hardball today, convicted burglar and conspirator G. Gordon Liddy mumbled his way through his contention that Preasident Barack Obama was not born in the United States, despite being shown evidence to the contrary, but rather was instead born in Kenya. While Chris Matthews produced copies of the Hawaiian birth certyificate, announcements in the Hawaiian press from 1964, testimony from Hawaiian health officials as well as from Republican Governor Linda Lingle, Liddy's proof to the contrary is a supposed deposition from Obama's "step-grandmother" who claims to have witnessed the birth in Kenya,
When challenged why everyone from Obama's parents to his grandparents, etc. would lie about his birth since the day he was born, Liddy claims it's because "everyone wants to be born in the United States". I mean, why are there even OB/GYNs in foreign countries? Shouldn't they all be here?
Liddy is one of the foremost purveyors of the "birther" movement. And why anyone is surprised that people who choose to get their information and world view from OxyContin addicts like Rush Limbaugh and convicted felons like G. Gordon Liddy believe this idiocy is beyond me. Trying to show these people that they are wrong is a total waste of time and energy.
Hell, watching Liddy try to respond to the evidence Matthews provided showed only that Liddy is nothing more than a pathetic figure with a limited intellect who is as easily manipulated today as he was during the Nixon years. He was a tool then who went to prison for a comically botched burglary worthy of the Three Stooges and he is no smarter today.
Personally, I think it is a sad reflection of the media in this country that people like Liddy not only have radio shows, but are trotted out on TV to pontificate as if they somehow have relevancy in the public discourse. Watching Liddy on Hardball was tragic. It was like watching someone poke a sick animal with a stick. And frankly, while I understand what Matthews is trying to do, I believe he's about beaten this dead horse enough.
No one who believes this garbage is going to change their mind even if you could produce a film of the birth showing an Hawaiian sunset in the background. They would just claim it was all doctored because, as Jon Stewart so aptly put it, it was a decades planned conspiracy to get a Kenyan Prince in the White House.
