This is not a Sarah Palin diary. It may not be a very good diary but it isn't a Sarah Palin diary. :-)
As I type, fireworks boom and crackle and spread their glory into the night sky. Despite their beauty they are in effect simulated bombs. "The rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air," and all that. They remind me that freedom isn't free or cheap as we have so poignantly seen from countless pictures the front lines, Iran.
Lets take a few minutes of our Freedom Day to remember freedom fighters everywhere.
The demonstrations are over and the stampede of Iran diaries has been replaced by today's continuing episode of "The Palins" which follows "Sanford and Sin" and The "Michael Jackson Story". Important stuff but as we celebrate our freedom I'd like a few minutes of your time back in the real world and ask you to remember to continue supporting the Iranian people and indeed people who fight for freedom everywhere.
The fight to reform the Iranian government it isn't over it's just shifted gears for the long haul. The big demonstrations aren't happening at the moment so for the short attention span MSM the show is over but the fight is still on.
Nico Pitney's current Iran blog indicates that a top clerical group calls the election illegitimate. Please continue to follow his blog on Huffington Post and Digg it for support.
Then there was Meteor Blades recced diary Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran.
Please read and rec if you haven't. We need to continue to fight against this form of incendiary hate in our own country. Bolton is just another discredited hatemonger and I have no idea why anybody would listen to him but apparently some do.
Millions of Iranians have said NO to their government. They are dying and going jail and yes being tortured and we are going to bomb them? I think not. We've done enough to screw up their country as it is.
Bolton's editorial is in WaPo and I'm not linking to it. My feeling is that, since most of us don't have the option of not buying the actual newspaper, we should boycott WaPo's website. Why drive traffic their way. If they are going to be so irresponsible as to sell "access" and print irresponsible crap by people like Bolton then screw them. I don't watch Bill O' or read the Drudge Report so way waste my time on WaPo.
Finally a couple of videos: Everybody likes videos.
Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora recorded this version of "Stand by Me" for Iranian People to show that the world is standing by their effort. It was released on 6-27-08 and diaried by Zenox on 6-28 Here but it didn't get much notice. I figure if since there are at least a dozen Palin diaries currently on the list, I can re-post this video from last week. So far it has over a million view world wide. Check it out and show your support.
If you like "Stand By Me" check this version out. It's been around awhile but I suppose there are lots who haven't seen it.

For your consideration:
- Could we be having another WMD moment about Iran's nuclear program? Could it really be just to make electricity as they claim? I don't know one way or another and I'm not sure our government does either. Could we be buying into Israeli paranoia?
- Apropos of nothing. Did you know that in the 60s the Israeli airforce flew joint training missions with with the "Great Satan" Iranians?
On this 4th of July 2009 take a moment to remember all the people who are living their "give me liberty or give me death" moment right now in real life and give them your support whenever you can.
Alla-O-Ackbar-for the freedom fighters.
