I have watched conservatives too numerous to count bleat on about how we on the left attack Governor Palin because we fear her. It's about damned time somebody set the record straight. I'm about as scared of Sarah Palin as I am of Kaiser Soze or Grand Moff Tarkin. Sure, if either of them actually became president of these United States I imagine we'd be in for a rough time. I guess you could say I am uneasy about the notion of Governor Palin as our president. She'd be an epic disaster, no doubt about it. However, I'd like to make two points here. First, we survived not four but EIGHT years of President George W. Bush. This republic could survive Palin. Second, IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. When will you conservatives get it through your skulls we mock her because we think she's hilarious, not because we're trying to disarm your most dangerous standard-bearer?
I know several moderate Republicans who voted for President Obama because Sarah Palin scared the hell out of THEM. One of them has been pretty up front with me. The idea that he might vote for Senator McCain and thus put Governor Palin so close to the presidency, well, he just couldn't do that. He obviously wasn't alone in that. Look at Governor Palin's polling during the race. She did very, very well among conservatives and she basically cratered with everybody else. Yeah, I'm fucking terrified.
Yes, she managed to rile up the conservative base. You guys got out and volunteered "for Sarah." You got up off the floor, dusted off your armor, and went to war. Too bad you didn't bring any allies, those "squishes" you so deride. You ardently supported someone who flat out said that there are parts of America that aren't really American, or who don't support America. Apparently the majority of Americans who currently live in urban areas don't count or something. No, you supported someone who mocked "eggheads" and other learned individuals. You went into the last election trying to dismiss, demean, and demonize your own fellow countrymen. And Governor Palin was at the fore, leading you on, as you cheered HER on.
It was hilarious. I'm not scared of a rematch. Please, oh by God PLEASE, bring it on! All your moderates are belong to us because of Governor Palin. She's a dishonest and deeply incurious lightweight who can only trot out the most basic of "solutions" to the very real problems we face (less government + less taxes = WIN!), trusting the market to a degree most Americans rather obviously do not.
Liberals make fun of Governor Palin because she is clownish. I find her as much of a threat to the Democratic Party as Baghdad Bob. She will not only never be president, but rather she will at best be a Fox News talking head who complains about those who actually work in government to solve our problems. Governor Palin will never become president because she has taken the conservative disdain for government to the new pinnacle. Apparently government sucks so badly she wants no part of it. Impressive credentials.
I was worried that Governor Palin might peel off Hillary Clinton supporters, but only for about a week. That was it. From that point forward I have felt nothing but contempt for Governor Palin. You conservatives are completely misunderstanding how we view her and why we behave the way we do. She's not scary. She's hilarious. You guys can run her as many times as you like. If you run her again you will make it obvious to the middle that you aren't that serious about government.
Welcome to the sidelines. You've no one to blame for this but yourselves. Yes, some people attacked Governor Palin and her family unfairly. No, I did not support that and I wrote a diary here at the Daily Kos saying precisely that. Those excesses, however regrettable, do not give you license to conflate them with the overwhelming majority of liberals reacting to her antics.
She's simply too much fun to go away. Please, oh pretty PLEASE Governor Palin run again. Never stop running! You'll never, ever win, but you will drive ever more voters to us. Maybe the smarter conservatives already see that she's a disaster for them. Maybe they will eventually. I don't know. The activists in the base, the people to whom this diary is addressed, well they simply don't get it. They want someone to just ooze contempt and loathing for the left. That will totally work. Admittedly their hero Ronald Reagan was a far classier act than that, but what Governor Palin lacts in facts, strategy, and clarity she more than makes up for with scorn.
Bring it on!
