One of my two remaining Republican "friends" (that gets harder by the day), after remaining blissfully silent for the past month or two, apparently woke up this morning and just couldn't take it anymore. It is impossible for these neocon pocketbook repugs to swear off their addictive, idiotic attacks on Obama for very long.
Now I am not blissful about Obama's glacial pace on gay issues, or his reflexive backing of some of Bush's nasty moves, or his compromising approach to health care reform. But as I said to Pocketbook Dave, "Oh, I'd feel so much better if that careless idiot McCain and Caribou Barbie were running our country. The mind reels."
Here's the highly original prose I received from Dave today:
It's too bad our bright spend thrifts in this administration
> "Mis-read" the extent of our poor economy.
>
> Gee....what didn't they know that everyone did.
>
> I know!!! Just create another stimulus waste spend plan and put us in more debt! Yeah! That'll work.
>
> Let's pass cap and trade too! Yeah! That'll work.
>
> Tax the workers and give money to the people who aren't.
>
> Good work. Well done.
>
> This is insanity! The growth in the economy and the growth projections in the future economy can't sustain the spending!!! What is so hard to figure out??
>
> Spending more makes it worse!!!
>
> Incent growth through business incentives and tax cuts!!! Let the people make it happen!!!
>
> We're cruising further in the abyss, and the foot is on the accelerator.
>
YEP, he said it. He used "incent" as a verb. That alone should disqualify him from further comment.
Here's what I replied to P.D.: "Yes, I'd feel so much better if that careless idiot McCain and Caribou Barbie were running our country. The mind reels.
Obama thinks in the long term, thank God. First we try to get out of this hole, then we work to reduce debt/entitlements. It's clear that's his plan, and that he knows his math and knows the debt isn't sustainable over the long haul, although with this Congress I can't imagine how THAT will look down the road. Spineless Dems and useless Repubs.
What part of "He inherited a sinking ship" don't you get? Bush's foolish tax-and-spend policy, and his unwarranted war, put us seriously in the red. And now we hear complaints about spending, and the same discredited CUT TAXES! nonsense as some cure-all. Talk about challenged math.
The cap-and-trade bill is certainly not perfect. But ignoring our worsening climate is even worse.
Insanity? The insanity lasted 8 years. I still don't know if our nation will recover from it, but I can't think of a better leader to try to lead us from the brink.
All I hear from the people who supported the worst administration in our nation's history - on every policy front -- is criticism of Obama. It rings so hollow.
