That's right! Judy Biggert had her Townhall meeting tonite from 6:30 to 7:30!
I bet you didn't believe she would have one! Ha....I guess she fooled you!
She explained her position and took questions from the polite and orderly audience. No one was rowdy and no one yelled or demanded attention. After all, it was a "gated" community in wealthy Hinsdale(technically it is in Willowbrook- It is called Hinsdale to attract those who want the prestige...and there is no lake there) just down the street from the Arabian Knights Stables in DuPage County, Illinois. (The percent of Democratic voters is 45% and rising!)
However.....there was a catch. Naturally.
The Townhall was for "residents" only. Residents of the "gated" community, Lake Hinsdale Village. You had to produce an ID to prove your residence. The police showed up about 15 minutes after we did to make sure we did not "enter" illegally to hear our Congressperson.
There was a registration table with friendly and helpful ladies to tell us where to go.
There was even a helpful sign:
In case we didn't believe what we were told.
Yes, alas, I was not a resident of Lake Hinsdale Village. I was a constituent, but not a resident of this illustrious "Gated" community. I didn't rate. My home is worth more than the townhomes/condos of the "Village" but that didn't matter. I could not gain entry to speak to my Congress Lady! I had attended 2 previous "townhalls" at which she declined to appear. I made appointments to meet with her in her office but she was not in her office on those particular days. I gave her petitions but was only assured that she supported veterans and believed that the US did NOT torture. And now, for healthcare, she has very strong opinions but will not speak them to me or others like me. She only posts vague positions on her website. She does not "advertise" her "Townhalls". Those are "word of mouth" to certain groups.
The "kind" lady guarding the door told me I could find out about her "Townhalls" on her website. Unfortunately, I had searched Ms. Biggert's website and, I informed her, there were no meetings or townhalls listed. Well, she answered, she is meeting with the Naperville Chamber of Commerce next. Oh, I can hardly wait. I am not a Naperville resident, nor am I a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Naperville. I guess I will have to picket there too.
Here we are at the Entrance to Lake Hinsdale Village in Willowbrook.
Looks like Judy Biggert will have to meet me at a later date. The two dozen or so people who were not allowed in will have to find some other way to communicate with their Congressperson. We already get her highly informative, dull, newsletters by email. Her lackeys answer my emails to her and tell me she is "very concerned". And, of course, I see evidence of her concern.
Here she is at the last "Townhall" meeting at the Downers Grove Library. Notice the sign with her name. The woman standing is introducing her chair in case she arrives later. I guess she couldn't find the Library, it is not in Hinsdale.
There were many eloquent speakers defending the need for Health Care Reform and Single payer and Public Option.
But she did not hear them. She has said that her constituents do not want "reform". Oh well.
Gotta get ready for her next "Townhall" and prepare my signs for informational picketing at her office.
Oh,and, yes, I WAS polite. But Judy Biggert entered and exited by the back door so I never saw her.
