Lawrence O'Donnell is masterful in replacing Chris Matthews on Hardball this afternoon, especially in dealing with a health care opponent who attended Arlen Specter's town hall on the issue.
But what was remarkably telling is what he got this woman, Katy Abram from Pennsyltvania to reveal.
This woman is completely out of her element. But what is so thoroughly enjoyable about O'Donnell's interview is that he's subtle in revealing this woman to be completely what we know healthcare opponents to be - completely uneducated on the topic.
She has parents close to Medicare age, yet she won't answer a question whether Medicare, the single-payer, goverment healthcare plan for seniors deserves to be repealed.
Ms. Abram invokes the Founders on many occasions in her interview, purporting to know what they would want. Her reasoning: "They wouldn't want all these programs."
Here's the rub - do they not teach basic civics in America's schools any longer. There's this thing in the preamble of the Constitution about promoting the general welfare of the populace and securing the blessings of liberty.
Yet, these individuals, like Mrs. Abram believe that a document written in 1787 should remain inflexible. Personally I am glad the case of Marbury v. Madison established the Supreme Court's power of judicial review.
I am glad the Founders left a means to change the Constitution. For many of these people, the 1950s are just hunky dory.
I have but one thing to say: Sorry, folks you can join us in the reality based world or leave the world of Leave It To Beaver where it belongs - mired in a place of black and white memories.
