That would be a free virtual ticket. If you cannot make it to Pittsburgh, do the next best thing and Come to Netroots Nation in Second Life. You will still get to see Big Dawg, hang out and chat with award winning bloggers, attend a Second-Life-exclusive interview with Markos at Virtually Speaking, attend panels, and you'll even get to catch a few great flicks: Silent Partners, A Soldiers Peace, and Mountain Top Removal.
There is both a program schedule and a social schedule at NNinSL.org.
So even if you are one of those folks that are not sure that you know the difference between a folder and a file, you can have fun in NN in SL. Yes, I have seen it happen!
If you do not want to read the rest of the post, I have made a quick flash tutorial on how to get into Second Life.
This is how I would recommend you do it. So here's what you do:
Go to secondlife.com
Click on the orange "Getting Started" arrow in the upper right of the page.
Fill out the form and check the box that says "Show me optional community start locations."
A page will come up to choose a community. Choose "Virtual Ability." They have invited us to use their landing point.
Check your email to activate your account.
Download and install the viewer. (The instructions have pictures!)
Log in with your user name and password.
Once you land, press the right arrow button on you keyboard and you will see a sign that says "Virtual Ability." Right-click on the sign and select "Touch" to go to Virtual Ability.
Once you land in Virtual Ability you can click on this link:
http://slurl.com/...
but if you have a disability, you may want to try the wonderful orientation designed by the folks at Virtual Ability. You can click http://slurl.com/... anytime.
Once you have landed in Netroots Nation in Second Life you may meet one of our greeters or follow the arrows for a do-it-yourself get started quick lesson on enjoying Second Life.
Come early! See the booths and have a great time. See you there!!
