And I want this woman to run it!
Jennifer Giles
If you followed the link above, you saw Jennifer address our Congressman, Dr. Michael Burgess, at a local town hall event last weekend in Denton, TX. She stood up in front of a mostly Republican crowd and asked Burgess why HE and HIS party hadn't fixed health care when they had control of the Senate and Congress (and don't forget they had the White House, too). Her question was picked up by all of our local networks and even had major air time on CNN!
Burgess' answer was the most honest I have heard from a politician in a long time... "because it's easier to poke holes in someone else than it is to defend your own product." To a later question, Burgess promised that he would not change his "NO" vote not matter what changes were made in the bill. His goal is not to represent the best interests of his constituents or the nation as a whole... it is only for a political victory.
Jennifer Giles was the president of our local Democratic club, SoDeCo - South Denton County Democrats until stepping down earlier this year. She was a fearless leader through the chaotic Denton County primary and Caucus and she was one of our representatives that went to the Texas State Convention. She planned and produced incredible events for packed houses during the general election and managed to work on several other campaigns at the same time.
We have begun a draft campaign for Jennifer on face book, "Jen in '10", and the response has been incredible. I think we have just about convinced her to run! She will be a true progressive candidate if she does run.
Will she win? Perhaps not, but she would certainly steer the debate and help set the tone. I can't remember when we have had a true progressive on the ballot here. She will also add some much needed energy in the Democratic primary here. Please help us support this incredible candidate and convince her to run!
