Let's kill the deal that Obama has apparently made with Insurance lobby. The so-called "bipartisan" deal that Baucus and Grassley are working on is the furthest thing from real change in healthcare. It's a sham. It's a fraud. It's kabuki.
I think we made a fundamental error in this whole process and that is that we started our negotiation process too low. There seems to be only one opportunity to fix this. Kill the deal that comes out of the Senate Finance committee and start over, and this time do it right. Nothing less than Single Payer. The right wing will go apeshit, but so what? Is it going to be any different from what has already taken place?
I say no negotiating with those who obviously do so in bad faith. We have the numbers. Let's use it. We need to reclaim the term "Single Payer" which the right wing has tried to turn into a boogeyman.
HR676. That's real change. That's change we can believe in.
Obama can, if he wants, play this perfectly - make it seem like he was trying for a bipartisan solution which broke down because of the Republicans. Then come at them with Single Payer - frame it as Medicare for all. And if Republicans don't like it, ask them why they want their fellow Americans to die. Do they not support America?
Let's kill this sham of a bill and start over. Obama can do this and look like the good guy. Again, we have a huge House majority, and supermajority in the Senate, and a popular White House. There is no reason we can't push through Single Payer.
