One of the major questions of Health Care Reform has been who will pay for this new care for the 47+ million people without insurance? One issue President Obama has spoken of without success to the anti-reformers is trimming medicare for waste. Well, it appears the government is finally taking action and pursuing tax cheats in Switzerland first with 52,000 secret accounts. That's a lot of money for needed programs from people that didn't want to play by the rules of our land and our responsible for government waste.
I just read the article today on the AP wire. Here's the link http://news.yahoo.com/... I'm happy to read a story like this because it goes to show what negative impact fraud, waste and abuse has on our society as a whole and how expensive it can be. Zurich-based UBS AG agreed to pay $780 million dollars and ordered to turn over the names of at least 300 American clients with hidden accounts. Carl Levin has an initial list of 34 countries allowing people to launder/hide money in accounts to avoid taxes and put their money into play in our economy.
When people go to town hall meetings outraged at our government forcing us to provide health care for all of our citizens, please read this article and really prove you care. If money is the main issue, applaud the government for chasing down cheats and finding hidden funds all over the world that would help pay for the services they want to provide our citizens. Do the anti-reformers really care that trimming the fat of waste can actually help pay for services or is it really about just saying no and doing everything possible to sabotage the President's agenda?
I know chasing down cheats is only a start, but the President did provide money to hire more IRS agents to go after dishonest people that will do anything to keep their money at all costs to our country. And to think there's people who believe deregulation is the way to go because everyone should be allowed to make as much as they can.
