To all the Chicken Littles here, here's the breaking news. President Obama SUPPORTS THE PUBLIC OPTION, so STFU please. Posting an "omg, onoz, we r doomed" diary on Daily Kos is the least productive thing you can do.
Disclaimer. This STFU may or may not apply to you (the latter being much, much more likely). If you feel offended by it, please accept my apology. However, if you are already offended prior to reading what I actually wrote (which proved to be true in several cases), kindly STFU.
Further STFU (as well as advice on WHAT to do) after the break...
Breaking at Raw Story...
Speaking to CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs emphasized that President Barack Obama still supports having a "public option" for health care, which the White House believes will introduce additional competition and lower prices in the insurance market.
This fight is far from lost. However, it is also far from won. Instead of whining, moaning, and rending your garments, here are some useful things you SHOULD do...
- Call your congressperson, express your support for the public option, say that you will never ever vote for him|her and he|she will not see a dime of your donation money unless they fully support the public option and fight for it
- Call your senator, state the same fact, make the same promise
- Call the White House, tell the President that you support him and need him to stand up for the people and against the special interests
- Check for any townhall meetings in your area; if there are any, go to express your support for healthcare reform
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper
And most importantly, if you still feel like whining...
Update. Thank you for the recommended list, please please please call your congresscritters, call the White House, do show up at the town hall next to you!
Update 2. An excellent point made by Phoenix Woman waaaaaay downthread which I agree with 104.7%. Give it some mojo please...
Don't let Drudge push your buttons
That's all this diary is about, really. But some folk are so eager for a shot to attack someone on our side that we don't care if we're letting Drudge or the AP's Ron Fournier (who almost became McCain's official press flack until he realized he'd do a better job for McCain while still with the AP) pull our strings and dance.
Update 3 (final). One very important point is made by BenGoshi, who today authored a passionate diary offering a different take on the same subject, which nevertheless I tipped and recommended...
We are on the same side, though. I'll not forget that. Hope you don't either.
So let's work toward one of our common goals - making sure that our elected representatives represent us, and not the insurance lobby.
