Senator Conrad's remark today that the push for the Public Option, as President Obama has advocated, was a "wasted effort" lead me to write him this email
Senator Conrad,
You, sir, are a "wasted effort". Why waste time trying to get Democrats into the senate, with almost 60 seats, when you won't support the president's agenda - one that the American public overwhelmingly supports - or did before you, by your non-commital statements about it, allowed it to be whittled away. You won't go in to bat for him. You give Grassly support, while tacitly undermining the president by not giving the validation, in his unique situation as the first African American president, he desperately needs.
It is this tepid support that has created the vacuum that has allowed the racist emails and placards, the conspiracy theories, the tea-baggers, birthers, the rumors about "death panels" and the negative corporate media barrage against President Obama's agenda to build.
If the effort to include a public option in this health care reform fails, it will be your fault, not the republicans, for allowing it to happen. You will be the ones held accountable by people such as myself by supporting your opponents in primaries and the like.
Have a spine sir. Look to the big picture. Support your Democratic President, for goodness sake - my President and the people of America who support him and want you to be his and their advocate.
Either that or, as the president himself has said - get out of the way.
