Why are the Democrats and President Obama bothering with this fake bi-partisanship on the healthcare bill? Senator Chuck Grassley told Chuck Todd he won't vote for his own bill, even if he agrees with it, unless a "substantial majority of Republicans" vote for it.
I just saw Chuck Grassley(R), the 'leading' Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, tell Chuck Todd and the new guy on MSNBC that he won't vote for his own committee's healthcare bill, even if he votes for it in committee, when it comes to the Senate floor.
After Grassley said that he was actually in favor of the "co-op model", he responded to Chuck's question about whether he, Grassley, was willing to be one of 3 or 4 Republicans who voted in favor of the healthcare bill he was negotiating with the Baucus Gang of Six on the Senate Finance Committee? Grassley said NO. Chuck pressed, saying that most of the other Senate Repiblicans would vote against reform for political, not policy reasons, and why would Grassley not vote for a policy he was helping to craft. Grassley basically said that he would cave to these reprehensible poltical tactics of his party in that case. This is despicable.
So, let's get this straight, Grassley is helping to kill the public option, and get the living wills provisions stricken from the Senate bill, and generally ruin the Senate version of healthcare reform. Why are the Democrats dealing with him at all for anything? Baucus is bad enough.
