Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne was on the Glenn Beck show last night. (Was it a repeat? Supposedly Beck is on vacation. In any event, I first viewed it last night.)
The title of this exciting installment of the Glenn Beck show was something like: "How the Government is Destroying Small Business."
Wow - in only 200 days in office - Obama sure has been effective in his goal of DESTROYING small business, eh? Whoop de doo! Goodbye, pesky small businesses!
Of course, Beck's show was completely devoid of any facts or evidence whatsoever, no charts, studies, other than the anecdotal right-wing crap spewed by his invited guests.
I vented last night on overstock.com's live chat - why is your CEO kissing the butt of someone who said the President has a "deep seated hatred of white people"?
I also sent an email to the following contacts at overstock.com - Rojohnson@overstock.com, kmoon@overstock.com, boardofdirectors@overstock.com, shareholder@computershare.com.
I should add that on last night's show, Beck said something like: "Obama wants to kill, no not kill, murder, small businesses." EVERY SINGLE PROPOSAL the President has talked about or even thought about - Beck says ALL OF IT is designed with the goal of destroying small business. Beck, uneducated idiot, is the only savant in the United States of America, apparently, who understands how important small businesses are to the economy! Give him a Nobel Prize for Economics! WOW!
So there's Beck talking about MURDER.
More violent rhetoric from Beck.
Is it a stretch to think he is inciting his unhinged, zombie followers to exercise aggressive, violent self-defense against someone trying to "MURDER" their business?
Is it a stretch to think Beck is unaware that his followers are bringing guns and semi-automatic rifles to Obama's town hall meetings?
Is it a stretch to think Beck is itching to see something happen?
This is the response I received from overstock.com this morning by email:
Thank you for your email expressing your opinion regarding Patrick Byrne’s appearance on Glenn Beck’s television show. We like to hear from our customers and we frequently hear from them (and others) about products we sell (or don't sell), places we advertise, how we advertise, projects/candidates our executives endorse, events we sponsor, and other positions that we (or our executives) take.
While Overstock.com does advertise on Fox, we are not a sponsor (financial or otherwise) of Glenn Beck. Let me also provide some clarification on Patrick Byrne’s appearance on Glenn Beck’s television show: Patrick appeared on the show to express his own views – some of which coincided with Glenn Beck’s and others of which clearly did not (like taxing carbon emissions). Patrick’s appearance was not an endorsement of Glenn Beck’s views, but rather a way to enter and participate in the debate.
Overstock.com does not sponsor, support, or endorse the views and opinions of any political party, organization, personality, or issue. Rather, we simply provide a great selection of quality merchandise at deep discounts. As vigorous supporters of free speech, we firmly believe society as a whole benefits enormously by encouraging a diversity of ideas. We have learned that we cannot please all of the people all of the time -- no matter what we do. Patrick Byrne has written a blog on the topic (see http://www.deepcapture.com/... . I hope that you read it and understand our position.

I hate to tell you this, but if you bother to SHOW UP IN PERSON on Beck's incendiary show - given ALL OF THE HEAT AND BAD PUBLICITY he has received in the last 2 weeks - given his DEMONSTRABLE TRACK RECORD OF LIES AND OBAMA DERANGEMENT SYNDROME - YOU ARE SUPPORTING A POLITICAL PARTY. YOU ARE SUPPORTING BECK'S DANGEROUS, EXTREMIST VIEWS. YOU ARE! Period. It is NOT debatable.
AND LOOK AT THE WHINING! OH, WE CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE, SO WE GIVE UP! Lame. Lame. Lame.
Yeah - you have no duty whatsoever not to support a network that employs a man who regularly spews the following:
