The Democrats have decided they don’t need us in the GOP to pass health care reform.
Oh crap.
First the unemployment numbers show the stim is working. Then that Taliban leader was killed, the stock market soared, and that Cash for Clunkers thing put a shiny new car in a lot of garages.
And now... this! What a freakin' week.
The way I see it, here are the three biggest problems this creates for us:
1) There goes the money! The health care lobby is paying us for votes. If the Dems go it alone, it doesn’t matter if we stay, pray or lay. The lobby dollars will be flowing to the Blue Dogs in double-time.
B) Their plan is going to help a lot of people. Obama will be linked to one of the best public policies of the century, just as Johnson is forever linked to Medicare. That means our lies about the horrors of this plan will be revealed. We’re doomed. Those old coots we scared are bound to notice there are no death panels on their doorstep.
Third, now that the Democrat party has realized it has a majority, Katie bar the door! We’ll have nothing to do for the next four years but watch Obama’s campaign promised steamroll through Congress. Another stimulus to get the economy back faster? No problem as long as they ignore us. And the last thing we need is an economy that’s fixed before 2010.
But let’s not panic. We can still do something about this. Here are some talking points to help all Republicans.
The Democrat party is taking over. This message will play well to our government hating minions as long as the Dems continue to act like they won the election handily. We must complain that bipartisanship is a broken promise. At the same time, let’s stoke the fear in the fringe some more that they’re losing their country. We’ll complain about One Party Rule. Our wingnut friends will take it from there to called it Fascism, or Marxism—whichever they hate the most this week.
The Democrat party is ignoring the will of the people—especially the uninformed loud ones we scared so successfully.
Complain about the deficit some more. That seems to work.
At all costs, we need to behave as though we can still stop this thing, even though we know there’s sorry little we can do about it, so the lobby dollars don’t dry up.
Like I needed this right now...
