This whole health care "controversy" is absolutely mind-boggling. For decades, the American people have repeatedly made it clear that this is THE highest domestic priority, right up there with jobs and the economy in general.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party has made it even more clear -- decade after decade -- that if a Democratic president and Congress ever succeed in providing some form of national health care coverage in America, they are screwed politically.
So their tactic is, once again, to try to destroy any effort to enact national health care coverage, no matter what type of system is proposed.
My response is: President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress need to push through health care no later than this fall. Zero Republican support? Fine. No matter what, there is probably nothing Obama and the Democrats can do to gain a single Republican vote.
So go ahead and ram it through. Period.
Enough of this bullshit.
Enact some form of national health care coverage as promised, and as demanded for decades by the vast majority of the American people.
Piss off the rump-region Republican Party and 20% of crazies out there who believe Medicare is a private program, that the moon landing was staged on a Hollywood soundset, that Elvis is alive and working at a Hardee's in Grand Rapids, and that the President was born in Kenya as part of a decades-old Communist grand conspiracy to take over America and kill members of Sarah Palin's family and convert the rest of us at gunpoint to Socialist Islam.
Question: When 99% of Americans have access to decent health care coverage, what are they going to say? No?
Fine! They can refuse health care coverage and end up out in the woods screaming at the top of their lungs, babbling on street corners about death panels and Socialist Islam for all I care.
ENOUGH! Enact the damn program and move on.
