It was Nov.5 and the election was, we thought, over, with the exception of the votes cast in the Minnesota Senate race. No biggie, we thought...they'll do the recount and Minnesota will have two Senators by January. BOY! Were we ever wrong!
Then, a small voice was heard, crying from the wilderness "yust southeast of Lake Woebegone". It was the voice of a simple Minnesota wineshop keeper named Carl "WineRev" Eeman. For what seemed like centuries, WineRev posted his series of diaries regarding the recount, the drama of the trial and, finally, Norm Coleman's ignoble defeat. Throughout this tedious process, he kept us here on DailyKos informed and entertained, particularly when he was describing the trial. His "legal lightsabre duels" were just too funny.
Now, through the miracle of the process made famous by Gutenberg, we have the ability to relive that wonderful series in a book titled Recounting Minnesota. I got my copy yesterday and am eagerly devouring it all over again. In my opinion, this book is wonderful. It is filled with humour, "the math", the history of voting in Minnesota (if there is a way to be more open and transparent in elections, I have yet to see it) and even comments from those who were reading the series as events unfolded.
I must say that the money I spent to buy this book was money well spent and I doff (DOFF) my hat to WineRev for taking the time and effort not just to chronicle it all for us here, but for going through the series and having it printed for those who read the series daily to be able to review the events and see them as we saw them then, rather than with 20/20 hindsight.
Thank you, WineRev!
