Good evening from the Nation's Capital and welcome to tonight's edition of the The Daily Show/Colbert Report chat thread. Our regular host, TiaRachel is taking the week off due to a case of TDS/TCR reruns.
As if that is not bad enough, we have a couple weeks of preempted shows, apparently so Comedy Central can show some lame-ass roasts. Dear lurker person: I would rather roast my own head than watch a bunch of self-absorbed celebrities make inside jokes, stoke each others egos, and swear. At least let us hear the curse words.
Everyone is welcome to jump in and join us. Turn on the tee vee and tune into to Comedy Central...Or don't. There's always plenty of discussions that have absolutely nothing to do with the shows. We once went through one re-run diary without even mentioning the show.
Before we jump into the fun, let's take a moment to remember the life and work of Senator Edward Kennedy, the Liberal Lion of the Senate. Thank you for all you have done for us, sir. We will carry on the fight fulfill your vision of affordable health care for all.
Do this:
RT @CasualWednesday In lieu of flowers 2 Kennedy Fam, send letter 2 your Congressman & Senator asking 2 pass a Kennedy Health Care Bill
And one more note: Don't read the reaction from those subhumans at Free Republic. Vile, disgusting dreck over there.
On to the shows....
Jon is stepping into the waaaaay back machine to bring us the June 22 show featuring basketball legend Bill Russell. Here is Rachel's diary from that evening.
The Colbert Report continues with Stephen's Iraq tour. When Rachel wrote her diary, we did not know who would be on the show. Turned out we had Lt. General Charles H. Jacoby Jr., Iraqi Deputy Prime Minster Barham Ahmad Salih, and some dude named Tom Hanks.
Here is a great mash up video from, what I think is, Tom Hank's best performance ever -- and that is saying something:
Note: the actual video has the dreaded "embedding disabled upon request" but this one is pretty good.
Perhaps you recognize the singer. If not, here's your refresher:
You're welcome.
