Obama is going to speak in a few minutes regarding the passing of Ted Kennedy. Originally he was supposed to speak at 8:30 apparently, the latest info is that he will speak at 9:30. In all likelihood the reason for the delay as that he is continuing to polish and work on his speech. According to MSNBC, Obama was awakened last night and informed that Teddy had passed, so I'll bet he has been working on it for awhile. Given the history and intersection of the Kennedy's throughout his life, my guess is that he wants to give a truly great speech, and that it will be a truly great speech.
Obama has a way of rising to the occasion, so this aught to be pretty amazing. I expect that he will call upon the nation and the congress to honor Teddy by passing real health care reform in his memory. Perhaps this will provide the moment of unity we need to move forward, as the Repugs will probably have to take a breather for a few days at least.
Please use this diary to blog the speech so that folks who can't watch because they are at work can participate.
It's a beautiful morning here in New Hampshire, the first really nice morning in awhile. I usually go for a walk first thing, but I don't want to miss this moment. The pundits on MSNBC are currently talking about how Ted wasn't angry or hateful, even though he could easily have been. May his spirit be a balm that calms the troubled waters of our country.
Update [2009-8-26 10:5:47 by PLS]: Apparently it's going to be closer to 10:00 the pundits on MSNBC are saying now.
Update [2009-8-26 10:5:47 by PLS]: Well, it was short and sweet. Obviously Obama has been effected very strongly. He mentioned the effect Ted had on his life and seemed to struggle a bit with some words. I wonder if Ted's death brought up earlier losses, like that of his grandmother.
