I t just occurred to me as I was musing the Senator Kennedy's amazing public service record, that we have a simple means of honoring his service as well as publicly demonstrating support for public option health care reform at a minimum, something that he would be proud to have his name historically attached to. This will cost nothing and be much more evident than signing petitions, writing our representatives or boycotting offensive pundits although those efforts should not cease.
More below.
It is customary in the U.S. for mourners driving in funeral processions to drive with their headlights on. Oncoming traffic generally stops along the side of the road until the funeral procession passes. I suggest that in honoring Senator Kennedy and celebrating his life that we all do the same thing all over the U.S.
Not only should we drive with our headlights on for a period of mourning, we should drive with our headlights on 24/7 until a Kennedy Health Care Reform Bill that he would have been proud of gets passed and signed into law.
Just like the surprising show of hands at a town hall documented in a diary here yesterday, this would be tangible evidence of the widespread support that exists for such a bill.
I don't have the connections that others have here at Kos to spread such an idea but, can you imagine how big a demostration of support for reform this could be if it were to receive grass-roots support nation-wide? Additionally, what if this did catch on and the media got wind of it? It's a super simplistic, incredibly cheap but tangible means to demonstrate the widespread support that the public option has. On the other hand, it could fall flat on it's face.
Rec this up, let's see if ground-swell support truly exists
