It is my fervent hope that Ted Kennedy's death might surrendipitously redirect the public spectacle on debating health care, which has claimed all-time shallow as of late.
McCain is now conducting a townhall on healthcare in Phoenix, and a questioner asked a very intelligent question, specifically pointing to the disparity between what most "first world" nations offer to their citizens as compared to the the for-profit US system, geared to make corporations profit while denying treatment.
The questioner's response seemed to get equal cheers and boos.
The McCain response was to articulate how Great Britain is denying services in some instances, to the elderly and disabled.Haven't been able to fact check his contentions yet.
It's a lot slicker than those circus death panel/socialism town hall meetings, but McCain is bringing the same stuff to the table."Competition" as the best approach, etc.
But I think we all need to realize that this is politics, and the Republicans will exploit in their own way.
CNN is no longer carrying it live, since I've started writing this, so I don't have a link.
But there's no doubt in my mind, the Republicans, despite any honor they might accord to Ted Kennedy, are going to work this for what it is worth.
