Or, only 4% of Israeli Jews support Obama's Middle East policy. This number is from the J-Post, the most right-wing Zionist serial publication. See the poll.
Note that the J-Post said "Israeli Jews". What did the 5,000,000 Arabs under Israeli occupation think? I guess we'll have to wait for Zogby.
Obama's popularity among Israelis has been plummeting since a May 17 Post poll on the eve of a meeting between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Obama at the White House.
The polling info suggests Obama must be doing something right. On the other hand, Bush II garnered almost fanatical devotion among Israeli Jews.
Some 88% of Israelis considered Bush's administration pro-Israel, 7% said he was neutral and just 2% labeled him pro-Palestinian.
These are staggering numbers. The poll also asked Jewish Israelis whether they would support a settlement freeze for one year as part of an American-brokered deal. 50% said no, 41% said yes and 9% did not express an opinion. A freeze for only one year is not going to impress the Palestinian leaders. Rollback might be of greater interest them.
Obama is 100% correct: settlements are the problem. They have been since 1948. As Obama said in May 2009, "settlements have to be stopped".
The poll did not ask if Israeli Jews would accept rollback of settlements and handing the buildings over to the Palestinian Authority. The poll did not need to, because not many Israeli Jews would support this. I don't see any resolution of this problem. This means the status quo continues, with "natural growth" of Zionist colonies among the Arabs, and perpetual statelessness. I have to admire the toughness of the Palestinians, enduring this brutal treatment and oppression by the Israeli day after day, for decades, and not yielding to tyranny. How much longer can they go on?
