I don't have my own PAC, so I can't collect contributions. However, groups like Democracy for America and The Progressive Change Campaign Committee can.
Let's respectfully request that these groups start a similar campaign for every day the Senate refuses to get on board with 78% of the American people and support a robust public option. They can collect the money and again, deliver it to progressive candidates. These candidates must be committed to a strong public option. These candidates must commit to voting AGAINST any legislation lacking a strong public option (co-ops need not apply).
I realize that the 2010 elections will happen long before Floor votes are taken on Health Care Reform, but we need to send a strong message to everyone who will listen that we will be watching how these Members of Congress vote, and we will not forgive them for walking away from us on true health care reform. It may also have the added benefit of making Members realize this vote alone could bring them a primary challenger from the left.
Since the Senate is the chamber creating the bottleneck for progressive progress, maybe the funds should go toward progressive Senate candidates.
I suggest we contact these groups and respectfully request they launch such a campaign. I think it's a winner for them, for us and for the American people.
