Grass roots revolutions have taken place all over the world as people have demanded that their voices be heard over the entrenched interests holding their countries back. Often, they have adopted a color or flower to represent their cause. I believe that it is time for our color revolution.
A quick search in Wikipedia on Colour Revolutions yeilds the following:
Georgia's Rose Revolution (2003), Ukraine's Orange Revolution (2004), Kyrgyzstan's Tulip Revolution (2005),Cedar Revolution, Lebanon (2005), and the latest is the Green Revolution, a term widely used to describe the 2009 Iranian election protests.
Powerful interests in the health care, pharma, and medical industrial complex have arrayed their forces against any reforms. Our corporatist congress is carrying their water. The democratic leadership gave away any hope of getting a single payer plan before they even starting bargaining with the republicans and now they appear ready to cave on the public option. Only a firestorm of response from the progressive wing caused them to pull back last week. They still seem incapable of admitting that a substantial majority (70+%) constantly respond favorably when polled on the subject of the public option (when this is worded correctly). For their part, the republicans have no desire to do any health care reform, never have, never will - unless it is to fill the coffers of their insurance and pharma lobbyist buddies.
Organizing for America has orchestrated a whole series of events to show support for real health care reform. More than 2,000 showed up in St. Louis today, in less than ideal conditions to rally for reform, but I didn't see it on the evening news! You think 2,000 teabaggers would have gotten some coverage? You betcha!
We need to take over these events to show our support for and demand the public option as minimum. We need to immediately bombard our local radio and TV stations about why these events aren't getting coverage. Rachael? Keith? Where are you? The rest of America who are focused on all of the problems including health care in their own lives, need to see just how big a force we are. We absolutely need to be seen and heard on the small screens all over the country to counter the noise coming from the do nothings of the party of No.
We need to stand up as the public in public option. This is the True Blue Revolution, and the hell with the Blue Dogs. Every one should be wearing blue, blue shirts, blue hats, blue ribbons. I want the politicians to look out over a see of blue and the have the balls to say they don't see the support for the public option. I want there to be so much blue on TV screens that folks think they need to adjust the color.
There are events being held all over the country so you can find one near where you live. They lead up to a big rally and march from the Washington Monument to the steps of the capital on Sept. 13. This is the day after a big 9/12 (Beck) and teabagger march in D.C on Sept 12. We need to positively dwarf their rally. We need to be larger and louder, because it seems that only louder counts anymore, the truth be damned. We need the establishment to sit up and take notice of us. We need to be mad as hell just like Hunter and David Waldman (aka Kagro). There is no more time to waste. Grab the kids and go to a rally near you for a couple of hours. Take some friends, make it a picnic! Make signs, make noise, make the change we thought we were promised but now seem to losing.
