I've never organized a political march before, but I'm going to try. On Sunday, September 13th, several cities nationwide are going to attempt to have rallies to support the public option. Basically, this is being set up in our city by my fellow twitter friend and I. For some reason, even if this winds up just being me and 5 other friends, I'm exercising my rights and fighting for what I believe in. That's all that matters to me. Hell, it might even be fun.
We've got the permit, we've got the route. I set up a facebook evite and tweeted the details. I am making a flyer to advertise. I e-mailed local unions. I feel the key to this effort will be visibility. I am going to utilize symbols. Since this is mainly online, I thought I'd appeal to people's love for Charlie the Unicorn. So my flyer has unicorns and butterflies on it, and I'm going to print them up on pink and lavender paper. That'll be fun.
I think the next step is to invite the mayor and city council members. The ultimate goal is to get enough attention drawn to the event to influence Oregon's Senator Wyden, who hasn't commited to the public option. Luckily, he's up for re-election in 2010, so perhaps he can be swayed. Jesus, please let this work!
