Even though I've always believed that everybody deserved affordable healthcare, now it's personal. I haven't exactly been putting in a lot of leg work to make healthcare for all a reality, I simply called my Senators and Representative one time each and left it at that. They knew where DeLLBerto stood. Now it's personal.
More beneath the fold.
For the past few weeks Mrs. DeLLBerto has been having headaches all the time. They would get bad, then subside enough that she could function and get bad again. On Saturday, they got bad enough to force her to into the emergency room. Being uninsured, that's a tough choice to make.. do we fall further into medical debt or does Mrs. DeLLBerto tough it out? She went in. They treated her for a migrane headache and sent her on her way.
Monday rolls around, she's still got a headache but she's taking the medication the ER gave her and that's taking the edge off. Around 8:30 that night, she feels faint and lightheaded, being a nurse, she knew she was going to faint, so she sat down on the kitchen floor. Another trip to the emergency room was made. This time her blood pressure was high, very high. I can't remember the actual numbers but the top number was 197. Not good. They gave her nitro to treat for a possible heart attack and blood pressure meds to treat the high blood pressure.
Thursday rolls around, she made an appointment to see her doctor. Even though we don't have insurance, we still see our doctors every once in awhile thanks to a program in which doctors donate their time to see the uninsured. The doc, knowing we're uninsured didn't want to do certain tests because of cost. He didn't want to do an MRI exam, which to me seems necessary, because one of the things he thinks might be going on is a brain aneurysm.
This week is going to do serious damage to our finances, we don't make enough to afford insurance, as the insurance the company I work for offers is pricey with a high deductible, but we make too much to qualify for MedicAid.. but barely.
So, I guess the biggest reason for me to write this diary is to ask all of you, what can I do to make damn sure every American has the oppurtunity to affordable healthcare? What other actions can I take that will make a difference?
