As someone who personally favors a not-for-profit medical care system, I was ultimately heartbroken to listen to Obama's speech. For the many merits that it had, he still had to bow to uber-capitalism. Sell it on the merits of competition in the market.
And that sort of Ayn Rand worship of capitalism is exactly what has brought this country to its knees. Jobless recovery. Money equals value. We no longer make things, like "communist" China does. We speculate and the "Eyes on the Prize" keep staring at the Dow, oblivious to the Tao.
Yes, the ass from South Carolina acted as "inappropriate" as Code Pink, or Cindy Sheehan, fer godsake.
And, wtf--Nancy Pelosi comes out against censuring him? Same damn bitch that didn't like protesters on her property.
Yet the crude protest works for the right. The crude protest earns the right money.
I can understand the impulse of those on this site to want to contribute to Wilson's opponent. Because we are all trapped in this system, where we ultimately conclude that money will equal power.
Since I contributed to the Obama campaign, in addition to working for it, I often think now that, even in terms of what percentage of my income I gave, it will never equal what bailed-out bankers can give, though their percentage of income will be far lower.
What happened to make so many think the United States was about capitalism, rather than an effort to escape tyranny?
Yet so-called "progressives" conclude it is all about the mother's milk of politics.
But the rich will always out-rich us. And they have the capacity to pay lunatics more than we do.
