This morning, Owosso Township, Michigan police arrested a suspect for the early morning killings of two men. The 33 year old male suspect is believed to have first killed 61 year old Mike Fuoss, owner of Fuoss Gravel Pit, Arrow Costruction and developer of Indan Rock Subdivision and Fuoss Brothers Apartments. The suspect was known to Fuoss who was killed in his office.
The second victim, James Pouillon, was shot from a moving vehilce while he sat holding an anti-abortion protest sign across from a local high school.
The Washington DC based Christian Defense Coalition has already scheduled a news conference for 2:30pm today and some Christian leaders are already calling for Obama to condemn the murder.
Christian News Wire Reports:
The Washington DC based Christian Defense Coalition will hold a news conference today, Friday, September 11, at 2:30 PM, in front of the US Department of Justice, on Pennsylvania Avenue.
News Conference Details---
When: Friday, September 11, at 2:30 PM
Where: In front of the U.S. Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania, Washington, DC
Who: Christian Defense Coalition director Rev. Patrick Mahoney, and other pro-life leaders
Why: To Comment on Murder of a pro-life activist in Michigan this morning
"Pro-life leaders have received numerous death threats. We call upon the Obama Administration and the Department of Justice to put the manpower and attention they have given in the past to the murder of abortion providers toward solving this case. If breaking news reports are accurate, this was a long time friend of mine." -- Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition
Mr Pouillon is widely reported as having been a gentle man, dependent on an oxygen tank who would sit in a chair holding anti-abortion protest signs. Based on a 2000 court ruling, it appears that he's spent over two decades peacefully expressing his oposition to abortion and was well known throughout the area. No matter what the motivation was, his violent death is tragic after two decades of peaceful protest. Reportedly a devout Christian, his family and friends can find some peace in the knowledge that he is now with the Lord.
It remains to be seen what sort of spectable and fund raising event the "Religious Right" attempt to spin this tragic incident into. Unlike the murder of Dr Tiller (gunned down inside his own Church), they're now calling for increased manpower and DOJ activity to "solve this case".
Many will jump in to condemn the killings and grab a piece of the traffic over this case. From all reportings, both Dr Tiller and Jim Pouillop were Christians and neither deserved to be gunned down. May they both rest in peace and may God comfort their families and loved ones.
Hopefully some authors will take a minute... just a short minute, to consider where our country is heading before they pile onto the hatemongering wagon to whip up the crowds (or to fill up their war chest).
UPDATED:
First - I appologize, all murders should be condemned. I didn't mean to imply that only Christians should be protected. Dr Tiller was accused (and targeted) as a non-Christian BY Christian groups. Yet he WAS a Christian. The Bible teaches us to confront fellow Christians peacefully and that was something for Dr Tiller's Church to do, not the general media nor any "Christian" based group trying to impose it's rules on a democratic society.
Second - I phrased this report the way I did because I don't see ANY connection with the pro-choice movement, yet "Christian" based groups are already spinning up the hate-machines to generate money off of this TRAGIC event.
Third - By "the direction this country is going" I was referring to all the violence talk. Tea Baggers, etc talking about watering the Tree of Liberty with blood, etc. When the air waves are filled with violent rhetoric, the "loosely hinged" feel more free to spring a nut and just "go for it." American used to know how to DISCUSS without threatening violence, revolution, etc. Certain political parties are fueling this (and IMHO) to rake money into their coffers. Its disgusting.
