Today the headlined story on nytimes.com is "Public Option Fades From Debate about Health Care." Throughout the summer the New York Times reporting on the health care issue has been biased towards gloom and doom for the public option. It's time to start calling their offices and complaining about the bias in their reporting.
Remember that during the summer nytimes.com reported that the public option had been dropped. However, Democratic representatives held town hall meetings and announced that the public option was still in the bill.
Last week the New York Times managing editor, Jill Abramson, was taking questions from the public. I wrote a long e-mail letter to her raising the issue of an anti-public option bias in the newspaper's reporting. I complained about their failure to report on the petition Howard Dean had with 400,000 signatures in favor of the public option. I also complained that they had not reported on the efforts of Fire Dog Lake in their own city. I also stated that the articles written by nyceve were better than the low quality reporting done by their reporter, Robert Pear, and that I have to read Daily Kos to get the news of the health care legislation. I suggested that nytimes hire nyceve because she is a superior writer to their current reporters.
Today's headline is outrageous and is a refusal to take public option advicates seriously. It's time we started calling the New York Times newsroom as well as our representatives in Congress.
Here is another example of the increasingly conservative bias in the New York Times. Today's magazine article about Jewish groups and Israel labeled the most conservative Jewish groups as "mainstream" whereas vast majority of Jews voted for Obama and voted against Bush in the previous election. The label "mainstream" was attached to the right wing fringe who are not the majority or the mainstream.
