"Certainly we would encourage people in other countries to have small families. Otherwise they’ll all be coming here, because there’s no room at the Vatican...Many [immigrants] hate America, hate everything the United States stands for. Talk to some of these Central Americans."Source(PDF)
These are the words of one Dan Stein, President and Executive Director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR - ha!). Mr. Stein and FAIR are organizing and sponsoring the "Hold Their Feet to the Fire 2009" radio-thon this week in Washington DC.
On September 15 and 16, 47 talk radio hosts from across the country, including Lou Dobbs, will broadcast continuously live both days from the Phoenix Park Hotel on Capitol Hill as part of Hold Their Feet to the Fire 2009 Radio-thon.
They will discuss the cost and impact of continued illegal immigration on jobs, wages, education, the environment and national security, the loopholes within America's Affordable Health Care Act of 2009 allowing illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded benefits, needed reauthorization of E-Verify, and the Obama Administration's plans for amnesty.
Dollars to doughnuts Congressman Joe "You lie!" Wilson (R-Wankerville) will be a special guest on many of these radio shows as he now seems to be the hero of immigrant bashers everywhere.
So, just who exactly is this group organizing this anti-immigrant hate fest? According to the Southern Poverty Law Center they are a hate group.
Founded in 1978 by John H. Tanton, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is one of the country's best-established anti-immigration groups — and the richest beneficiary among them of the largesse of the infamous Pioneer Fund.
I'm sure it will come as no surprise that the Pioneer Fund has been described by the New York Times as existing for the sole purpose of sponsoring research into eugenics - specifically those projects aimed at demonstrating that blacks are genetically less intelligent than whites. (SourcePDF)
According to SPLC, FAIR claims upwards of 70,000 members though that number is likely inflated. Still...70,000 people...where have I heard that number before? Oh, that's right - that was the DC fire department's estimate of actual crowd size at the 2 million Tea Bagger party on Saturday (though to be fair, ~ half of those people were from the Black Family Reunion)
In case you're still not convinced that these people really, really don't like anyone that isn't white, here's a few more FAIR highlights:
...[Dan Stein - President of FAIR] has warned that certain immigrant groups are engaged in "competitive breeding" aimed at diminishing white power.
Rick Oltman, FAIR's western representative, has spoken before and worked with the racist Council of Conservative Citizens. Source
Stein expressed approval of China’s forced abortion policy (in a column by Ben Wattenberg quoting Dan Stein) as an "international family planning program." Source(PDF again, sorry)
Garrett Hardin, a FAIR board member, has argued that aiding starving Africans is counterproductive and will only "encourage population growth."
The bottom line is this: I'm tired of these f*cking haters and I want them to go away. An established hate group is putting on an event this week that, with the help of Lou Dobbs, will further encourage hatred, bigotry and fear of those not like them. Even though I despise the man, many people still think Lou Dobbs is a real journalist and listen to him spout his anti-immigrant bile on CNN every day. Please go read the full letter that Media Matters recently sent to CNN and then go write one yourself. Here's a taste:
"Mr. Dobbs represents an ongoing threat to CNN's credibility as a serious news organization, in no small part because of his polemical coverage of immigration issues and his continued use of his CNN show to lend prominence to groups such as FAIR. The attention and legitimacy he gave to the "birther" movement -- and CNN's condoning of his actions -- did real damage to that credibility. His participation in the upcoming FAIR rally would do further, serious damage. We urge you to finally acknowledge that Mr. Dobbs' actions in this and other contexts are inconsistent with the reputation that CNN strives to maintain."
Peace and goodwill to all.
