Despite the fact it seems you need to qualify as a right-wing nutcase to get a lot of media attention- it is also true that people other than right-wing nutcases protest.
Fox News talk show host Glenn Beck's scheduled appearance at a Michigan Chamber of Commerce dinner here today sparked a protest outside Michigan State University's Kellogg Center.
A group of MSU College Democrats and others showed up to voice their opposition to the commentator who has stirred controversy for calling President Barack Obama a "racist" and a "Marxist" who has a "deep-seated hatred for white people."
More than 100 protesters lined Harrison Road in front of the Kellogg Center. They toted signs saying "Get the Hate Out of Michigan," "My President is Not a Racist" and "You Lie."
some quotes from the protesters....
He's a very hateful person," said Sarah Johnson, a junior psychology major from Grand Rapids, who held a placard saying "get off my campus you little pinhead." "It's upsetting that they're paying him so much money to be here. The money could have gone to a better cause."
Robert Henderson, 63, from the Greater Lansing Network Against War and Injustice, said Beck's show "makes my blood boil."
Mitchell Rivard, president of the MSU College Democrats, an organizer of the protest, said his group did not intend to keep Beck from speaking.
"We're here to stand up to his rhetoric," Rivard said. "Enough is enough."
Oh! The Chamber is paying Beck 25,000 dollars for his deep political insights.
I find it a good thing when people are willing to stand up to bullies. We live in impolite times and remaining silent isn't the best option. We're gonna fight! Fight the right!
