No, not that Hannibal. This Hannibal was President Lincoln's VP. Not much is taught about him, but he had an interesting but uncelebrated history. Hannibal Hamlin, a democrat, was chosen as Lincoln's running mate. Both shared an opposition to expanding slavery.
When Hamlin was in the house and senate, Maine (his state) entered the union as a result of the Missouri compromise. In 1846 the US went to war with Mexico, and questions came up about slavery in the newly conquered territories.
As a senator, Mr. Hamlin was a temperance man. He led the fight to abolish capital punishment in Maine. He became speaker of the house in congress. As a man of temperance, he observed that sentator Silas Vance was rarely sober and drank while he addressed the senate.
Mr. Hamilton has been called the most invisable VP ever. It has been said that during the civil war, Lincoln lost faith in him and ignored him, so he went back to Maine and only went back to Washington each year to open each new session of congress.

Mojo Friday Guidelines
- If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
- Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
- You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
- You don't have to comment to recommend.
- You can't steal MK's idea (right, like that ain't goin' to happen)
- Please, no pictures or YouTubes until after 300 comments. Now, after 300, use a little common courtesy and be responsible in the number.
- Mojo mojo mojo mojo, mojo mojo mojo.
- TexDem (our benevolent sponsor) and MKinTN are not bound by the guidelines. Heh.
