I've had it with hearing the right-wing noise machine claiming that Obama is running the Federal Government into the ground. So I did a little work on the subject because in my mind, I was pretty darn sure it has been under Republican Presidential rule that our Federal Debt has gotten so high.
Okay, I went to the Government's own webpage regarding the Treasury Debt levels since 1900.
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/...
I took the number straight from the above. I discounted the beginning debt balance of 2.2 billion when McKinley was in office and started in 1901 and went through 2008 (well, officially it is September, 2008).
Now, will I be able to copy and past my hard work into a readable format? Well, apparently only as a JPG.
In GWB, Jr.'s last year alone his Deficit numbers were over a trillion dollars alone.
My work is in an Excel spreadsheet and I do not know how to post that to DK's but if you email me I'll be glad to send you my work.
So, since 1901, Republicans have caused almost 78% of the current debt and to think that the Federal Governments 3rd largest expense is the INTEREST on that debt, who is really to blame for this mess we find ourselves in now?
Notice how much the debt has risen since Reagan (yeah, Reagan sure was good, wasn't he?). Just between Reagan, Bush, Sr and Bush, Jr., their rule has produced almost 75% of the total Federal Debt.
Now argue with me about Obama being stuck trying fix this mess.
This all started because a friend of mine insists that they are not benefitting from Obama's Stimulus package and their business is going to go under because of it (what a lame excuse) but what can I say? I won't rub this in her face but wanted to share my work with somebody, anybody, willing to listen.
I hope this SCREAMS out what others have been saying all along. Had Reagan not cut taxes so much (and therefore the Federal Revenue needed to run the Government), then we would not be where we are today, pure and simple. The rich might not have had the temptation to keep all that extra non-taxable money instead of trickling down to the underlings, who according to most Republicans are just welfare kings and queens anyway (even though they may hold 3 jobs).
