On Saturday, Glenn Beck came to Seattle to speak at Safeco Field (where the Mariners play baseball). I went to the protest and brought my camera. Some people paid up to $500 (which included a photo of them shaking hands with Beck). The common people paid $15 to sit up in the stands. Seniors and students had a discount. Oh, and the concession stands weren’t open, but box lunches were available for a fee.
After the reception, the lunch, the speech, and the book-signing (all of which had a price tag), Glenn Beck was going about 60 miles north to get the key to the city from the mayor of Mount Vernon, WA. Additional protests were planned for Mount Vernon.
Here’s a link to the Seattle Times article: Glenn Beck's Seattle event draws a few dozen protesters. They say 30 protesters, but I'm sure there were more.
More below the fold.
Beck’s speech was sponsored by the right-wing Evergreen Freedom Foundation, whose website says:
EFF’s mission is to advance individual liberty, free enterprise, and limited, accountable government.
You can probably guess their political beliefs – basically, they want to do whatever they can to EFF up the state government.
This guy had a very large and sarcastic sign:
Sometimes the simplest messages are the best (incidentally, that sign in the background is for a guy who's running for U.S. Senate against Patty Murray):
The Billionaires for Wealthcare made an appearance. (See that big white sign towering over the crowd in the background? That's the "He's Our Idiot Bigot" sign.)
One protester had a two-sided sign (Hope and Hopeless):
A #22 bus to White Center stopped in front of us. Someone said, "Glenn Beck says that Obama is a racist because he hates White Center." Which seemed funny at the time.
Several people wore yellow shirts that said, "Hate is not a Mount Vernon Value."
One guy was still angry that our NBA team moved to Oklahoma a year and a half ago. Even the Beckerheads thought he was a little crazy:
Here’s a picture of me (Dbug). There were a bunch of pre-made signs, but by the time I arrived, the really good ones were taken, so I got "Defenestrate Glenn Beck." I discovered that Beck’s supporters don’t understand big words.
Finally, a woozle. Dogs can not only smell fear, they can smell stupidity. All dogs hate Glenn Beck.
