Mr. Polanski, famous for films such as Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist, fled to France to avoid jail time in 1978. He was charged with drugging a 13 year-old girl, and performing oral sex, along with vaginal and anal intercourse on her.
More after the fold...
From The Huffington Post:
The director of such classic films as "Chinatown" and "Rosemary's Baby" has asked a U.S. appeals court in California to overturn a judges' refusal to throw out his case. He claims misconduct by the now-deceased judge who had arranged a plea bargain and then reneged on it.
Mr. Polanski was in route to a film festival in his honor when arrested. He will have the opportunity to fight his extradition in Swiss Court.
As many of you already know, Mr. Polanski was the husband of actress Sharon Tate, who was brutally murdered in 1969 by The Family, headed by notorious cult leader Charles Manson. Susan Atkins, a Family Member convicted in the Tate-LaBianca murders, recently died in a California prison.
