Now that the Senate has voted, I want to hear from the man who got me to believe he would be there for us. Even if it means interrupting talks in Copenhagen about Chicago Olympics--or is he purposely gone right now? Below is my letter to whitehouse.gov
Dear President Obama
We need to hear from you immediately, as our leader who promised it was worth it to give everything we could to elect you. Please give us a way you view and understand today's vote in the Senate--what it means to the effort to get health care that meets your 3 principles and where to focus our efforts now. Give us a sign that you are in this with us.
My 21 year old son (who was a staffer for your campaign) recently returned from a Peace and Conflict study in Uganda/Rwanda, with possible symptoms of malaria. We pay for student health insurance but the insurance won't pay for the diagnostic test which was $7 in Africa and is $250 here. We can't afford the test right now.
And now that he has admitted the possibility of malaria, I fear that record will follow him as a pre-existing condition so he will never have coverage for malaria or maybe not able to get coverage at all.
If we are mandated to buy insurance from these companies, we are in fact paying a tax to a corporation that does everything it can to give us nothing in return. My other sons, part of the generation with 52% unemployment, do not have insurance.
We are taking this betrayal by our Democratic senators very seriously. Offer us a reason not to give up on our belief in you and our hope that your leadership could restore our nation.
We see the awesome forces gathered against you and understand there are more hidden from our view. But at this moment, we need to know. Are you still with us?
