"... universal health care program.
I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody.
And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out.
A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see."
You can watch it for yourself:
What I want to bring attention to tonight are the words after "BUT":
".. as all of you know, we may not get there immediately."
And, why might that be, Sir:
"Because first we have to take back the White House,"
OK, We the People did that on 4 November 2008 and you are now President Obama instead of an aspiring US Senator as you were when you spoke those words in 2003. Oh, BUT wait .. more qualifers:
"... we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House."
OK, We the People did that, as well, Sir.
So, you are inaugurated President. You have a solid majority in the Senate (stop with all the 60 vote stuff, btw), and you have a solid majority in the House and what do you do ... well, Mr President We the People all know what you did.
You made a mistake. A big one.
We know why. We know where your heart is Mr President. We truly get the fact that you thought you could convince corporatist Democratic and Republican Congressional folk to recognize the total moral rot of a Nation that cannot care for the ill and act in a bipartisan manner to do what the majority of Americans want and need.
FAIL.
Now, Mr President, the question is have you learned a lesson in time to do what you not only correctly identified needed to be done in 2003, but that you now have ALL the conditions you prescribed as necessary to get the job done.
Mr President, take 30 min in the next 48 hours and just listen to what Michael Moore had to say to you earlier today.
A year ago ... Mr President, try to remember who you told us you were a year ago, try even harder to remember who you were when you spoke those words in 2003. Are you that person? For your sake, your daughter's sake, for this Nation and humanity's sake, I Hope so.
BUT, only your actions, Sir, will speak the truth of who you really are.
Irrespective of what you do, we have no intention of failing our fellow citizens in their need for care.
Elections have consequences because we intend to hold those whom we elect accountable.
