Sorry, I usually try and refrain from "rant" mode, but this morning, they've pushed me just a little too far.
(And, before we really get started, here's a side observation -- has anyone noted the brilliance, in all seriousness, of Republican strategists? They may not be any good at governing, but the Rove clones sure know how to identify an issue that can cloud everything by putting blood in the water. And that's exactly what they've done here, creating a mini-shitstorm on a ridiculous issue that is going to crest on the day before Obama speaks to Congress on healthcare, one of the most important moments of his young presidency. In doing so, they greatly cripple the chances he can forge goodwill from anyone on the fence by forcing people into a "us vs. them" mindset on the eve of the speech.)
So, on to protecting the thought integrity of wingnuts...
(Continued)
I am deeply concerned about wingnuts and their rights, in a Taliban-like view of the world around them, to protect their children from any thought impurity that would come from hearing the voice of the democratically-elected leader of the free world emphasizing the importance of doing well in school.
He does, after all, show those nagging socialist tendencies.
But are we really doing enough to help protect our wingnut friends? Realizing their predisposition to being opposed to thinking, perhaps it has gone unnoticed by them just how much of a socialist ideal the concept of school is in the first place? Particularly public school.
If these people are truly worried about "indoctrination," well, they are taking one helluva risk in the first place by letting their kids out of their homes and engaging in known risky behavior like learning to read.
Please, wingnuts, save yourselves from an uncertain future! Get those kids out of school now! BUT... and this is worth adding, in an extra effort to safeguard you from the creeping claws of socialism -- let's not encourage any more socialist behavior in the process.
If you're going to claim your kids, take a stance against socialism and refuse to support the tyranny that is publicly-supported roads and highways. (Not to mention stop lights -- is there anything more representative of the evils of socialism than losing 30 seconds of your life to a machine someone else thought was a good idea?) Heck, stay off the sidewalks, too, for good measure. Find a route from your house to that school that involves only grass and dirt. That's the true American way, as God handed it down to us.
I urge you -- boycott civilization; do your part to save America from socialism now!
