There is a town called Hico, Texas. Hico is desperate for you to believe it is the only place where the legend of Billy the Kid matters: http://billythekidmuseum.com/...
Today I met a colleague whose wife teaches school in Hico. He told me that the staff of her school had to call every parent in the district. Why? because the President of the United States has a message for their children and the school has to make sure it's ok for the kids to hear it. The vast majority of those parents said: NO. So guess what the kids of Hico won't be hearing next week??
Did I mention that Hico used to be the home of a KKK Grand Wizard and they used to have KKK rallies there? Did I mention the "famous" diner there, known for its pies, that was called the Koffee Kupp Kafe but is now called the Koffee Kupp Family Restaurant? (the name change happened three years ago or so)
So: Hico, TX was home to Billy the Kid, a rebel if ever there was one and they're proud of him. They used to (and perhaps still do) allow the KKK to hang out there. They don't want the president of their nation addressing their children. Are these things related in any way? Hmmm....let me think.
Oh I know! They're upset because the president hasn't come to the Billy museum! that must be what it is, right? 'Cos I'm sure there can't be any other reason. No, not at all.
