ENDORSEMENT BY ROBERT B. REICH
FORMER SECRETARY OF LABOR
[FL-13] Jan Schneider is pleased and proud to announce the endorsement of her campaign for Congress in the Florida 13th Congressional District by former Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich.
Reich has served three national administrations, most recently as Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton. As Secretary of Labor, Reich implemented the Family and Medical Leave Act; led a national fight against sweatshops in this country and illegal child labor around the world; headed the successful effort by the Clinton Administration to raise the minimum wage; secured worker's pensions; and launched job-training programs, one-stop career centers, and school-to-work initiatives. Under his leadership, the Department of Labor won more than 30 awards for innovation. A 1996 poll rated Reich the most effective member of the Clinton cabinet.
Reich is also the author of ten books, including The Work of Nations, which has been translated into nearly two dozen languages and the best-sellers The Future of Success and Locked in the Cabinet; his most recent book is entitled Reason. He is currently a professor at the Goldman School of Public Policy at Berkeley, and he has previously been a member of the faculties of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and of Brandeis University. He received his B.A. from Dartmouth College, his M.A. from Oxford University (where he was a Rhodes Scholar) and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
Jan Schneider too has a long history of involvement with labor initiatives. She assisted the Transition Team on labor issues prior to the first Clinton Administration, wrote advocacy pieces in favor of the Family and Medical Leave Act and has been a strong advocate for pension protection and retiree representation on pension fund boards.
